You can help prevent orphanhood by providing: \*If you live in North Texas and would like to organize a clean birth kit assembly event, email candi@bestwa.org Nurse Sam often contacts us, sometimes in the dead of night, with a request to help a pregnant mother in distress.  It can be something as simple a paying for a birth at the hospital for someone with no money, or an emergency c-section for someone who cannot safely deliver.  Because of your generosity, BESTWA has never had to turn down a request for medical treatment for a pregnant mother. Julie is a 24 year old with a pelvic deformity.  She needed an emergency C-section, but did not have the $200 to pay for one.  You intervened.  Julie and her baby are safely alive because of you.  Thank you! Andy lives with his wife Teresa in Grand Prarie, Texas. He began ministering in Liberia in 1998 and has since travelled there more than 30 times. Andy attends Midlothian Bible Church where he is active in the Men's ministry. He enjoys reading and gardening, and spending time with his 6 children and 17 grandchildren. Candi lives in Arlington, Texas with her children and her husband Nathan. She served on the board of BESTWA for 14 years.  She became Executive Director of BESTWA in January 2019.  Candi homeschools her children, and loves crafts of all kinds, reading, genealogy, trivia, and people. Dan and Jeannie enjoy traveling the country on their motorcycle. He traveled to Liberia for the first time in February of 2018. Darlene lives in Midlothian, Texas. She was a teacher, counselor, and central office administrator for many years in public education. After retiring from public education, Darlene opened a private counseling practice specializing in depression and the healing of trauma. Darlene loves to study the latest research in her field, work in her yard, travel, go to the movies with her girlfriends, and read. She travelled to Liberia for the first time in February of 2018. Gracie lives in Arlington, Texas with her husband Rudy and their two children. She has served on the board of BESTWA since 2017. Originally from Monrovia, Liberia, Gracie came to the United States in 2002 to attend University, where she earned her doctorate in Social Work. Gracie is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Texas A &M University-Commerce. She enjoys reading, watching movies, therapeutic cooking and baking , 3D puzzles, ships and architectural modeling. Rudy lives in Arlington, Texas with his wife Gracie and their two children. He has served on the board of BESTWA since 2017. Andy and his wife Teresa have 6 children and 17 grandchildren. They live in Grand Prairie, Texas and attend Midlothian Bible Church. Andy first traveled to Liberia in 1998 to help with a pastors' conference, and has been returning ever since. After working in various capacities to meet the practical needs of the Liberian people, Andy founded BESTWA. Andy was born in Warsaw, New York and spent his first 10 years in Castile, New York, a town that was largely planned and built by his great grandfather, D. Center Perkins. His grandfather, Rev. Donald M. Perkins, Sr., founded Elohim Bible Institute there in the early 1940's. Andy's parents, Rev. Jim and Shirley Perkins, trained for the ministry at Elohim Bible Institute. Andy was exposed early and often to missions work, because Elohim Bible Institute hosted many wonderful missionaries as speakers, and Andy's Uncle, Don Perkins, was a missionary to Ethiopia. In 1959, Andy's parents were called by God to move their family of 7 across the country. They packed up all they owned and left Castile (and their large extended family) for parts unknown, stopping and setting down roots in Dubois, Idaho. Rev. Perkins later pastored in Montana and Idaho. Andy's earliest jobs in these rural communities included bucking hay on a ranch, moving irrigation pipes, and working at a feed lot. Andy was blessed to attended High School at Prairie Academy in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, from 1964 to 1966. While there he dormed with students from all over the world, many of them missionary kids.  In 1970, Andy was drafted into the U.S. Army. He met his wife Teresa at Fort Knox, Kentucky and they were married in 1975. During his time in the military, Andy served one tour of duty in Korea and two in Germany. He achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2, and was Law Office Manager in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. On his separation from the military in 1980, Andy and his wife Teresa moved with their 3 children from Germany to Dallas, Texas, where Andy attended Christ For The Nations Institute. As a student he edited the yearbook, and later became the Managing Editor of CFNI magazine. After leaving CFNI, Andy spent over 20 years in print sales in the DFW metropolex, and then sold advertising for the digital version of the Fort Worth Star Telegram from 2001 until 2004. From 1998 to 2004, he visited and gave of his time and money to do all he could to help his friends in Liberia in a personal capacity. In January 2005, Andy was diagnosed with terminal cancer and told to get his affairs in order. Through that Winter and the following Spring he went through surgery, chemotherapy, and drastic dietary changes to fight the cancer. Happily, Andy has been cancer free since then. Andy's passion for the wonderful people of Liberia is what drives him. To cut the umbilical cord, they used a cooking knife. Wrapped in a towel, Prince seemed healthy at first, but days later his tiny body was hot with fever. Desperate, Fatu carried him to the local clinic, but it was too late. Prince died in his devastated mother's arms. ***If Fatu and her neighbor had a few simple things, Prince would still be alive.*** With your help, our team has deployed over 3,200 clean birth kits to Liberia since 2019. Developed by the World Health Organization, the kits contain medical gloves, soap, a plastic sheet, cord clamps, and a picture instruction card. They are small enough to carry everywhere, and can prevent fifty percent of the birth infections that kill babies and mothers in Liberia. Sharon’s parents devoted their lives to Christian ministry with a special focus on music.  Sharon played violin and piano and had a lovely singing voice.  One of the highlights of her youth was her time as a High School student at Hampden DuBose Academy, a Christian boarding school in Zellwood, Florida.  Sharon attended Dallas Bible College, where her father, Paul, was the director of the music department.  She earned a B.S. in Biblical Education with a focus on music.  Sharon toured extensively with a group from DBC.  As a result, she met David, her husband of nearly 57 years, in South Texas.  He saw her photo on a concert announcement in the local newspaper and attended the event to meet her.  They married on September 1, 1967, at her parents’ home in Dallas, Texas.   Two years later, David was drafted into the United States Marine Corps, and they moved to several military bases in their early marriage.  After David’s separation from the Military in 1972, David and Sharon moved to Arlington, Texas where they raised their family.  They moved to Grand Prairie, Texas in 2007. Sharon devoted herself to the upbringing of her four beloved sons, Brian, Nathan, Steven, and Darren.  They filled her life with so much joy.  She was an enthusiastic supporter of their sports, education, and musical endeavors, and very proud of the men they grew to be.  A lover of the outdoors, Sharon enjoyed camping and hiking, birdwatching, cycling, and gardening.  Sharon was the center of an extended family and the gracious hostess of Holiday celebrations and birthday parties.  She especially loved decorating her home for Christmas and planning the annual Easter Egg Hunt.  Sharon was an excellent cook.  She also enjoyed creative endeavors and was a skilled quilter.  Sharon was a gentle, compassionate woman.  Her love for Jesus was expressed over the years through her service as coordinator of the worship team at Grand Prairie Bible Church, activity in the Arlington home school community, as office manager of the Grand Prairie Pregnancy Resource Center, by opening her home to families in need and missionaries on leave from the field, and by the way she treated her family and friends. Sharon contracted Lyme disease in 1998 and struggled to regain her health, eventually recovering through much hard work.  During that time of illness, and during her cancer journey, she clung to the promises of God, especially Isaiah 41: 10: “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”   Sharon is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Ruth Wagner and her sister Nancy Wagner.  She is survived by her husband, David, her brothers Tom Wagner, and Mark Wagner (Cherry), her sons Brian Summers (Jennifer), Nathan Summers (Candi), Steven Summers, Darren Summers (Jennifer), Jeff Nash (Holly), and her many beautiful grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in celebration of her life to [BESTWA.org](https://crm.bloomerang.co/HostedDonation?ApiKey=pub_1e4024f4-3742-11e7-afbe-024e165d44b3&WidgetId=134144).
